Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has opened up on experiencing depression after falling out with his former head coach and current AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho

The Portuguese head coach joined Manchester United in 2016 and signed a three-year contract. He was, however, fired in December 2018 after the team registered poor performances.

Paul Pogba stated that he experienced a difficult time to the extent of even losing the vice-captaincy in September 2018.

"I've experienced depression many times in my career, but we don't talk about it.

"Sometimes, you don't know you're depressed, you only want to isolate yourself, be alone, and these are signs that don't deceive.

"Personally, it started when I was with Jose Mourinho in Manchester. You ask yourself questions, wonder if you're at fault because you have never lived moments like these in your life," Pogba noted.

Pogba signed for Manchester United for a fee of Ksh13.5 billion in 2016 with Mourinho joining United in the same period also. The duo fell out during the Portuguese's last season in charge.

Pogba noted that what helped him cope during that period was focusing on his family and talking to former players like Patrice Evra.

The French international added that he does not allow negative moments to undermine his achievements.

"And when you can't do it all alone I talk a lot with 'Uncle Pat' (former players who lived it) because they'll understand you right away,” Pogba added

The 29-year-old was keen to highlight that everyone can suffer depression despite earning huge sums of money.

"Of course, we earn a lot of money and we can't complain, really, but it doesn't stop you from going through these moments.

"Just like everyone in life, some moments are more difficult than others.

"Because you earn money, you should always be happy? That's not how life is. But, in football, it's not accepted, even though we're not superheroes, only human beings," Pogba noted.

Mourinho during his Old Trafford spell won the League Cup and Europa League in 2017.
