The Lioness Rally, Kenya’s first all-female rally, attracted eight teams at the Kasarani Super Spectator Stage.
Maxine Wahome and her partner, Safina Khan, came in first place with a time of 17:16:01 seconds in their Subaru Impreza.
Coming in second place by just 13.01 seconds was renowned driver, Tash Tundo, who was navigated by Chantal Young.
Caroline Gatimu and Tinashe Gatimu, the mother-daughter duo, came in third.
“Today is a great testament that women have a bright future in the sport. There is hope for us to have our own championship soon,” said State House Spokesperson, Kanze Dena.
Lisa Christoppern, founder of Lioness Rally, in an interview with KTN mentioned that she believes they have broken the bias for women in motorsports.
“We want to empower the youth, to take charge when you are in that driving seat. We want them to take control whether you are in the motorsports, medical field or aviation. Take charge and follow your dreams,” she said.
Christoppern was also delighted with the turnout.
“I am proud to see an event that we conceptualised less than a year ago actually come to life the way it has today. We are extremely grateful to our partners including KBL and the brand White Cap brand for joining us to make history with the first all-female rally in Kenya. We are grateful for the support we have received to bring this, and the other events we have planned, to fruition.”
The Equator Rally, which will take place on April 3rd, 2022 under the Africa Rally Championship banner, will continue the motorsport action this weekend.
