
On Thursday, April 7, Athletics Kenya named the marathon teams that will represent the country in the upcoming World Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games.
The World Athletics Championships will take place between July 15 and 24 in Eugene, Oregon, US, while the Commonwealth Games will take place from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, England.
The team captains for Kenyan team to the World Athletics Championships are World marathon women's defending champion Ruth Chepng'etich and two-time World half-marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor.

Other members in the men's team for the World Athletics Championships include 2019 Chicago Marathon champion, Lawrence Cherono, Barnabas Kiptum and the 2017 World marathon men's champion, Geoffrey Kirui, as a reserve.
Joining Chepng'etich in the women's team is the newly crowned Paris Marathon champion, Judith Jeptum, and Maureen Chepkemoi as Angela Tanui joins as reserve.
For the Commonwealth Games, the women's team comprises 2020 Los Angeles Marathon winner, Margaret Wangari, Purity Changwony and Stella Barsosio with Viola Cheptoo going as a reserve.
The men's team for the Commonwealth Games includes the likes of 2021 Valencia Marathon Bronze winner Philemon Katherine, Eric Kiptanui and Jonathan Korir as Michael Githare joins in as a reserve.
According to Athletics Kenya, the first two athletes across the line during the trials will automatically be selected with the third athlete being determined by a panel of selectors.
Jackson Tuwei, the Athletics Kenya President, during his press briefing noted that the teams' managements will be named in due course.
The trials for the World Athletics Championships have been scheduled for June 24 and 25 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The Commonwealth Games trials will take place on May 20 and 21 at the same venue.
