Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed, has assured Kenya’s youngest top golfer, Kibugu Njoroge, of the government’s support to ensure he becomes the international star he is destined to be.

TeamKenya.co.ke has learned that a never-released-before private conversation between the two at a recent event detailed the CS’s commitment to implement President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive.

The President directed the CS to ensure the 18-year-old attends the Soudal Open in Belgium slated for May this year, and facilitate his training to equip him with the necessary skills that will enable him compete at the topmost level of international golf competition.

During the Magical Kenya Open Golf Tournament held at Muthaiga Golf Club last month, CS Amina reportedly gave the young Njoroge her phone where he spoke to the President for the first time.

In the conversation, the President is said to have congratulated Njoroge for the milestone he had reached in the tournament and promised to support his journey to become a professional golfer.

The young golfer would later get an opportunity to shake hands with President Kenyatta at the Ministry of Sports pavilion the next day (on Sunday) when the Head of State attended the final day of the Magical Kenya Golf Open.

Njoroge Kibugu was the only Kenyan to make the final level par second round cut at the 2022 edition of the annual Magical Kenya Open golf tournament.

Kibigus' brilliance at the Magical Kenya Open saw him advance to the latter stages of the tournament as he headlined the competition that saw renowned Kenyan pros knocked out.

The teen golfer has attributed his success to his family and his caddy, Bo Ciera, a former Kenya amateur national team captain.

Kibigu is experienced in the sport as he started playing at the age of six and is ranked 751 by the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
