Kenyan defender Joseph Okumu hit a personal career milestone after lifting his first trophy in Belgium when his side KAA Gent edged out Anderlecht on penalties.

The two teams were playing in the Belgium cup final with the match ending in barren draw in normal time before winning 4-3 in penalties.

The Kenyan player has featured six times in the Belgium Cup fixtures recording just a single goal.

The 24-year-old centre-back joined KAA Gent in 2021 from IF Elfsborg FC in his first season together with fellow African Elisha Owusu from Ghana.

Okumu played the whole 120 minutes having missed their final match of the season against OH Leuven on April 10.

He made two important blocks to save his side from conceding during the game. In the 24th minute the 24-year-old put his body on the line by blocking an effort from the opponent.

In the 44th minute, the centre-back made another important tackle blocking Joshua Zirkzee who was through on goal, using his height to stretch and put the ball out of danger.

Okumu has made only 27 appearances for Gent in the league without a goal but registered a total of 11 clean sheets.

In the First Division A league Gent finished fifth on the log with 62 points in 34 matches played.
