Manchester United's interim coach Ralf Rangnick has been announced as the next manager of Austria.

According to a statement from the Club released on Friday, April 29, Rangnick will however continue in his consultancy role at Old Trafford until 2024.

“I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue consultancy with Man United. I’m looking forward to helping United become a real force again,” Ralf noted after the appointment.

The 63-year-old Man United caretaker manager replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the club at the end of November 2021.

Rangnick has had quite a difficult run, with United currently sixth in the Premier League, five points behind Arsenal who are fourth.

On Thursday, April 28, Manchester United drew with Chelsea in a 1-1 score line putting their chances to book a Champions League spot for next season in jeopardy.

Manchester United has already announced Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag as the next substantive boss for next season.

After the match against Chelsea, Rangnick highlighted his role at Man United at the end of the season confirming he will remain as the club's consultant for a period of two years.

"What I can tell you and confirm is I will definitely continue with my consultancy role at the end of the season and for the next two years.

"I'm very much looking forward to it. We haven't spoken, Erik and myself, we've spoken with the board about the contract and the profile of the job, the content of the consultancy role.

"That's why I can confirm I will continue at the end of the season," Ralf noted.
