La Liga have announced that they plan to lodge a complaint against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) before UEFA, over Kylian Mbappe’s contract renewal.

In a furious statement on Saturday, May 21 La Liga president Javier Tebas termed Kylian Mbappe's contract extension at PSG as an insult to football.

La Liga accused the Ligue 1 outfit of attacking the economic stability of European football in convincing the forward to stay at Parc des Princes.

This is after Mbappe's surprise decision to extend his contract with his home side despite talks with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

“I’m also very happy to be able to continue in France, the country where I was born, grew up, and flourished” announced the 23-year-old.

After the news, the Spanish league overseer termed PSG's financial clout as harmful to the financial sanity of European football.

The La Liga president argued that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is “as dangerous as the Super League”.

“What PSG is going to do by re-signing Mbappe with large amounts of money (which who knows from where and how they (PSG) pay him) after losing 700 million euros in the last seasons and having 600 million euros in salary expenses, is an insult to football" argued Tebas.

"It's unfortunate that a club like PSG can close such an agreement, while those clubs that could afford the hiring of the player without seeing their wage bill compromised, are left without being able to sign him"

"La Liga wishes to state that this type of agreement attacks the economic stability of European football, putting at risk hundreds of thousands of jobs and the integrity of the sport, not only in European competitions but also in domestic leagues"

"La Liga will file a complaint against PSG before UEFA, the French administrative and fiscal authorities, and European Union authorities to continue to defend the economic ecosystem of European football and its sustainability." read the statement in part.

The Frenchman will remain at PSG even as the legal showdown ensues and hopes that the dust settles in Spain.

The French international is seen as one of the finest forwards in Europe. Mbappe has netted 168 goals in 216 games for PSG, after joining them from Monaco in 2017.
