The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) apologized to Manchester United fans after the words "Manchester United are rubbish" appeared on the channel's news ticker.

BBC acknowledged the mistake and made an apology on-air.

"A little earlier some of you may have noticed something pretty unusual on the ticker that runs along the bottom of the screen, with news, making a comment about Manchester United, and I hope Manchester United fans weren’t offended by it." the host said.

“I hope that Manchester United fans weren’t offended by it, let me just explain what was happening…behind the scenes, someone was learning how to use the ticker and to put text on the ticker," she added.

She explained that the mistake was made by a trainee learning the ticker system.

“So they were just writing random things, not in earnest and that comment appeared. So apologies if you- saw that and were offended especially Manchester United fans.

That was a mistake and wasn’t meant to appear on the screen. That was what happened, so we thought we better explain that to you.”

The Red Devils welcomed their new manager and former Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag on Monday, May 23 after finishing sixth on the log.

According to Ten Hag, it won’t be too long before the Red Devils are back competing with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

In his first speech as United's coach, the Dutchman said he was after ending City's and Reds' dominance in English football and bringing the glory back at Old Trafford.
