Athlete Who Set World Record Disqualified for Wearing Wrong Shoes

Triple Jump World Record-Holder Yulimar Rojas will miss the World Championships after she was disqualified for wearing unapproved shoes. 

Rojas who had qualified for the upcoming World Athletics Championships Oregon22 after jumping to a mark of 6.93 m. 

However, the jump was not recognized as she was using unrecognized shoes which are not regulated for the long jump.

Rojas who is a back-to-back triple jump world champion did her qualifying jump in June 2022 at the back-to-back triple jump world champion surpassed the long jump qualifying standard in June 

"Rojas had intended to compete in the long jump after this event, with approved shoes, to qualify for the World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022 but injury prevented this," World Athletics noted in a statement. 

The Venezuelan triple jump world record holder was wearing triple jump shoes, which are not approved for the long jump event. 

Both long jump and triple jump use distinct types of shoes with those for long jump required to have a sole thickness limit of 20mm and 25mm respectively. 

"We know this is disappointing for Rojas and her legions of fans, but we very much look forward to watching her compete in the triple jump in WCH Oregon 2022 and qualifying for both events next year at the World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023," the statement further read. 

The world championships will be taking place in Eugene, Oregon from July 15 to July 24.
