Ferdinand Omanyala is among six other athletes who have benefited from the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) Ksh19.32 million scholarship grant.

The Ksh19 million will be used in helping the athletes in their preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The seven athletes will be sharing the Ksh19.32 million among themselves, with each receiving Ksh115,000 per month for the period they will be training.

The money will help them get proper coaching, training facilities, traveling, accommodation and medical care.

The other athletes are Nicholas Kimeli, Jacob Krop, Charles Simwoto, Abel Kipsag, Margret Chelimo and Beatrice Chebet.

Abel Kipsang - who participates in 1500m races - set the Olympic record during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Kimeli, on his part, smashed Kipchoge's 5000m record of 12.46.53 after clocking a world-leading time of 12.46.33. Jacob Krop, just like Kimeli, is a 5000m athlete.

Margaret Chelimo and Beatrice Chebet participate in the 5000m races. However, Chelimo also takes part in the 10,000m race.

Omanyala, while receiving the grant, thanked the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) for its support and promised to make the country proud.

“I will be lying if I said I expected this. This is an indication that Paris 2024 is just a blink away. I want to make Kenya proud. Thank you so much NOC-K for this opportunity,” Omanyala noted.
