Blunder That Led to Kenya Being Humiliated at World Cup Qualifiers

Kenya Morans forward Ronald Gundo Gombe has stated that the national basketball federation should be blamed for the team’s poor display at the FIBA 2023 World Cup qualifiers.

Morans were bundled out of the quaHosts Egypt had earlier hammered Morans 72-39 in a one-sided encounter played on Saturday July 2, at Borg Elarab Arena, in Alexandria.lifiers by West African side Senegal who walloped them 86-54 in their final group match.

The Kenyan side failed to register a single win, finishing at the bottom of their group which also had the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Gombe has asked Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) to take accountability for their underwhelming display in Egypt.

“The Kenya basketball federation needs to take accountability for the inadequate preparation in the last couple of tournaments. Competing at this level requires deliberate planning and preparation. We cannot do things the same way expecting different results. Waiting on government funding is not planning!!”

Gundo added that the national team players did what they could given the circumstances which surrounded their preparation.

The Kisumu-born player who plays professional basketball in Spain ended his emotional post by thanking all individuals and companies which stood with them.

“For the sponsors who stood with us at any point in this journey, the likes of Desmond Blacio, Robert Nyasimi (RentCo Africa Limited) Angela Luchivya (Coca-Cola), Madgoat TV and the rest, we say thank you. Your support was highly appreciated. To our die-hard fans, we say thank you and to our toughest critics, we say thank you as well,” stated Gombe.
