
Kenya won its first medal after 27-year-old long-distance runner Michael Mugo Githae finished third in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Kenya's Michael Githae won bronze after clocking 2.13:22 in the men's marathon.
The race saw Kenya's Eric Kiptanui miss a chance to compete due to an administration error as his name was not on the start list.

Uganda's Victor Kiplangat won gold clocking 2.10:55 while Tanzania's Alphonce Simbu finished second in 2.12:31
Kiplangat's gold medal was Uganda's first ever in the Commonwealth games.
Michael Githae, was initially on Team Kenya’s reserve list before he replaced Philemon Kacheran who was provisionally suspended for doping on July 8, 2022.
Githae bounced into the limelight after winning the 75th and final edition of the Fukuoka International Marathon on December 5, 2021.
In the 2016 Tokyo Ohme-Hochi Road Race, he finished second in 1:31:46.
One ye he won a gold medal in the Shizuoka Marathon, where he registered another personal best of 2:11:40.
