Newly crowned Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala has disclosed that he missed most of the 2022 Wanda Diamond League series due to national assignments.

Speaking to Capital Sports, Omanyala stated that his main objective was winning a medal for Kenya.

"I would have competed in the Diamond League series but I missed out on most of the legs because they were clashing with the various championships in which I was competing. My aim was to win a medal this year and I did it," he revealed.

Some of the Diamond League meetings that Omanyala missed this season include Stockholm, Doha and Paris Diamond Leagues.

He will also miss the Lausanne and Memorial Van Damme Diamond League legs slated for August 25 and September 2 respectively.

The African 100m record holder also disclosed that he will be taking part at the upcoming Spitzen Leichtathletik and ISTAF World Continental Tours.

The latter is set to take place on Tuesday, August 30 in Lucerne, Switzerland while the ISTAF World Continental Tour will be held on September 4 in the Germany capital Berlin.

Omanyala stated that he opted to feature in the two continental tours because it would have been hard for him to qualify for the Diamond League final scheduled to take place between September 7 and 8 in Zurich, Switzerland.

"For me, I am simply looking to enjoy myself when I go there because I have achieved all that I set out to do for this season.

"Therefore, I have chosen to participate in these World Continental Tour events because as it stands it would be difficult for me to make it to the finals of the Diamond League," he ended.
