Those picked for national assignment include African zone 3 Bantamweight gold medalist Shaffi Bakari, 2018 Commonwealth games bronze medalist Christine Ongare, 2017 African Championship gold medalist Nick Okoth and Africa Zone 3 light heavyweight champion Elizabeth Andiego.
Shaffi Bakari noted that he hopes to give his opponents a tough time and come back with a gold medal.
‘’My coach did note the things that needed improvement after my fight in Birmingham during the commonwealth games and am sure when we get to the camp and begin training we will make necessary changes and hope things will work out,” Bakari noted.
According to the Hit Squad head coach, Benjamin Musa, the team has the right personnel and will put up a spirited campaign for the title in Maputo.
The 2022 Africa Boxing Championship which is organized by the African Boxing Union (ABU), is set to run from September 9 to September 18, 2022.
