
The 2022 Wanda Diamond League season comes to a close on Thursday, September 8 at the Weltklasse meeting in Zurich, Switzerland.
According to the organizers, most of the world’s best runners have confirmed their participation in the final leg of the championship.
“The Road to the Final has reached its destination. On Wednesday and Thursday this week, the eyes of the athletics world turn to Zurich, where the finest athletes on the planet will be battling it out to be crowned Wanda Diamond League champion.

“As well as 30,000 USD in prize money and the iconic Diamond Trophy, the 32 champions will also win the only major global title which demands both consistent performances throughout the season and a cool head under championship conditions,” read a statement from Wanda Diamond League.
Several athletes including 1,500m specialist Faith Kipyegon Chepngetich and 800m world champion Emmanuel Korir are some of the Kenyan stars who have been confirmed to grace the event which begins on Wednesday, September 7.
Kipyegon will line up against the likes of 2020 Tokyo Olympics 5,000m bronze medalist Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia, Allie Wilson, Hirut Mesesha and Great Britain’s Laura Muir.
The Kenyan sensation is the favourite going into the race having won most legs of this year’s Wanda Diamond League season. Chepngetich is also the reigning Olympic and World Athletics Championship champion.

In the 5,000m women’s race, 2022 Commonwealth winner Beatrice Chebet will square it out with compatriot Margaret Kipkemboi, Dutch international Sifan Hassan, and Alicia Monson.
The Ethiopian trio of Hawi Feysa, Ejgayehu Taye and Worku Fantu will also be in contention.
Memorial Van Damme Diamond League 3,000m Steeplechase surprise champion Jackline Chepkoech will be seeking to continue with her brilliant form in Zurich.
The reigning World Athletics Under 20 champion is expected to face stiff competition from the likes of former world record holder Winfred Yavi Mutile, Mekides Abebe and compatriots Virginia Nyambura and Faith Cherotich.
