Shujaa handed Scotland a 24-5 defeat to advance into the semi-finals of the Challenge Trophy at the 2022 World Cup Sevens in Cape Town, South Africa.

Following the win, the Kenya Sevens team will face off with England in the semis set to be played on Saturday evening, September 10.

In the first half of the match, Shujaa controlled the game through three tries from Vincent Onyala, Billy Odhiambo and Nelson Oyoo to go into the break with a score of 17-0.

Nelson Oyoo gave Shujaa their fourth try in the second half with Oliech converting, putting the score at 24-0. Scotland made their consolation try through Kaleem Barreto.

Notably, Vincent Onyala made one of the best try saves in the game after he stopped Scotlands Harvey Elms a few metres to the try line.

Speaking after the resounding win, Billy Odhiambo noted that the team was happy to get a win after their disappointing game against Argentina on September 9.

"We stuck to our plan and held onto the ball, and the team that controls possession controls the game and with pressure comes points.

“That went really well for us. Piling on points in the first half really eased the pressure so we were more relaxed when playing and managed to execute a few plays," he stated.

Shujaa was relegated to the Challenge Trophy after being eliminated by Argentina in the Cup contention in the round of 16 matches.
