Most individuals, not only football fans, always refer to former Harambee Stars head coach Jacob Mulee as “Ghost”.
However, very few of them know where the legendary coach got the name “Ghost”. TeamKenya.co.ke takes a look at how Mulee got the above nickname.
Mulee started playing football for fun at a tender age. It is at Ofafa Jericho Secondary school where his talents were nurtured. At Ofafa, he used to play with the likes of AFC Leopards chairperson Dan Shikanda.

Jacob who currently co-hosts a show in the morning on Radio Jambo alongside Joseph Ogidi popularly known as Gidi disclosed that he got the name “Ghost” due to his performances as a goalkeeper.
“I got the name “Ghost” because of my theatrics in the goal post. When I started playing football, we didn’t have nets. I used to save balls that were impossible.
“Everybody knows that is a goal, then out of nowhere I make a save and they would wonder if the ball is in the net or not, so that is how I got the name ghost. The field is Camp Toyoyo, which is where I started my football career. So, the “Ghost” has stayed till today,” revealed Mulee.
Some of the clubs that Mulee who views football as a passion rather than a game has played for include Tusker, Reunion and Volcano.
As a coach, he guided a youthful Harambee Stars squad to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in 2004.
The Kenyan squad then had the likes of Robert Mambo, Titus Mulama, Mike Okoth and Dennis Oliech.
At the club level, Mulee has also won a number of league titles. He won the Kenya Premier League title with Tusker on three occasions.
Some of the other clubs that the experienced tactician has coached include Tanzanian side Yanga and APR of Rwanda.
