
Judith Korir will be taking part in the full 42km race in London after Brigid Kosgei withdrew from the race due to an injury.
Korir who was set to take part in the race as a pacesetter revealed that she had already trained for pacesetting before being informed of the changes.
The 26-year-old is coming from the World Athletics Championships in Oregon where she won a silver medal in June 2022.
“I had a short time to prepare for London. I was ready for pace-setting but unfortunately, I was told I would be finishing the race.
“After the World Championship I rested for almost three weeks then I was told to prepare for pacing. I prepared for pacing for almost a month and a half but unfortunately, I was told to come and finish the London marathon,” Korir stated.
She, however, noted that she was psychologically prepared and excited to finish the race.
Korir trains with the current women’s marathon World Record holder Brigid Kosgei in Kapsait, Elgeyo Marakwet.
“For Sunday I would like to run my best, set my season best and also my Personal Best,’ Korir added.
Her time of 2:18:20 at the World Championships in Oregon is Korir’s best Championship result so far.
Some of the races that Korir has won include the 2022 Paris Marathon, Abu Dhabi Marathon in 2021, 2019 Belgrade and Venice Marathon.
The 42nd edition of the London Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, October 2. Kenyan female athletes have won all the last six London Marathon editions.
