Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), has denied claims that the west African country uses witchcraft to win games as alleged by a French news outlet.
In a letter addressed to the CEO of Radio France, the former Chelsea forward noted that the claims by the online publication were not factual.
The author of the news article had claimed that most Cameroonian footballers seek the services of traditional healers.

“Madam President and CEO, these words are not only misleading but also represent an insult to all these generations of players who have won competitions thanks to their efforts in clubs and within selections.
“The Cameroon team is a space where freedom of conscience and worship is guaranteed. Everyone is free to practice the religion or spirituality of their choice. Provided that this freedom respects that of other players and coaches while preserving the living environment from any influence contrary to the principle of secularism of the State recognized by the Constitution of Cameroon,” part of the letter read.
The FECAFOOT president added that the journalist should substantiate his claims.
It was also claimed in the October 6, 2022 article that the players attend special rituals performed by traditional healers before international matches.
In response, Eto’o noted that it was totally ridiculous to claim that they would sacrifice animals in stadiums in the middle of the 21st century.
The former Barcelona also demanded that the media company issue a response and be published on its website.
