Boxing Federation Kenya (BFK) president, Anthony Otieno Ombok, was elected as the new President of Zone 3 African Boxing Federation member associations.

He won a closely contested election against his Congo Brazzaville counterpart President Nkodia Kynd Gaetan.

The BFK president assured the continental boxing fraternity that he will use his passion for the sport and global networks to push for the game's development in Africa.

“I will work closely with Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) President Bertrand Mendunga and IBA President Umar Kremlev to ensure that we provide boxing equipment to all federation members of the zone and organise courses for coaches, referees and judges.

“This will go a long way to develop our beloved sport in the zone, and with the cooperation of all the federations, I am confident we will succeed together as Zone 3. Thank you all, God bless you and God bless Africa zone 3,” Otieno stated.

The African Zone 3 position was previously held by the current President of the Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC), Bertrand Mendunga of Cameroon, on an interim basis.

Africa Zone 3 consists of Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Burundi, Rwanda, Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Guinea Bissau, DRC and Congo Brazzaville.

Otieno was elected as the President of BFK in 2019, where he took over from John Kameta.

Under his tenure, the national boxing team finished second with 17 medals at the Africa Zone III Boxing Championships in DR Congo in April 2022.
