Inter Milan’s huge 4-0 win over Viktoria Plzen in the early kick off confirmed Barcelona's exit from the competition.

The Xavi Hernandez coached side needed to win their game against group leaders Bayern Munich and pray that Inter lose all of their remaining matches to proceed.

However, a miracle failed to happen since they were beaten by Bayern at Nou Camp, with the African duo of Sadio Mane and Eric Maxim scoring a goal each in their 3-0 defeat.

Atletico on the other hand were eliminated after their 2-2 draw with Bayern Leverkusen in a mouthwatering match which saw the former miss a penalty.

Juventus missed to qualify for the round of 16 for the first time since  2013 after their 4-3 shock defeat at the hands of Benfica on Tuesday.

The 2018/2019 semifinalists Ajax also failed to progress - the Dutch-based side were beaten by Liverpool 3-0 at home.

Despite registering  a 3-0 win over FC Copenhagen, Sevilla failed to secure a slot in the round of 16.

The Spanish club needed Manchester City to beat Borussia Dortmund, but the two teams played to a draw.

The above teams will now play in the Europa league where they are likely to square it out with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Roma and Monaco.
