Speaking after the match, the powerful center forward told DAZN that emotions got over him to the point that he forgot about the earlier booking.
"I like this type of goal, Sandro 's great ball. The important thing was to score, I am very happy.
"I forgot to be cautioned, I was excited and I forgot. I think in my head I am young, but the important thing is the three points. Now I will not be wrong anymore," he was quoted by Milan News.
Giroud’s compatriot Theo Hernandez had opened the scoring for the Rossoneri in the 21st minute before Daniel Maldini equalized for Spezia in the second half.
The win helped AC Milan to reduce the gap on leaders Napoli FC who have been outstanding this season.
Napoli sit at the top of Serie log with 35 points, 6 more than AC Milan, with both of the teams having played 13 matches.
Should AC Milan have picked up a draw against Spezia, they would have been 8 points behind Napoli.
The Stefano Pioli coached charges were shocked last weekend when they were hammered 2-1 by Torino, and thus they had to win yesterday’s encounter to increase their chances of defending the Serie A title.
