Argentine referee Facundo Tello was forced to dish out 10 red cards in the final minutes of a cup final match between Boca Juniors and Racing Club on Monday, November 7, 2022.

Tello, who is set to officiate at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar had no choice but to send 10 players off after Carlos Alcaraz’s injury time antics.

Alcaraz disrespected Boca Juniors fans after scoring a late header to make it 2-1 and win the match for Racing Club.

He removed his shirt, ran towards Boca fans and celebrated his goal in front of them, something which irritated the supporters.

Angered by his actions, Boca Juniors players charged at Alcaraz, one of them grabbed him by the ear while others pushed him.

Tello dished out 5 and 2 red cards to Boca Juniors and Racing Club players respectively after the drama.

Before the chaos, he had already sent three players for an early shower (1 from Racing and 2 from Boca), making it a total of 10 red cards.

Racing's Johan Carbonero and Sebastian Villa from Boca Juniors had been sent off in the 95th minute following a heated exchange.

Boca Juniors' central midfielder Alan Varela was also dismissed five minutes later, after picking up a second yellow card.

Since only six players from Boca Junior remained on the pitch, the referee ended the match.

This was not the first time that more than 10 red cards were issued in a single match in Argentina.

In 2011, a fifth tier match between Victoriano Arenas and Claypole produced the most number of red cards ever witnessed in football history.

In that epic encounter, 36 players and members of the technical bench from both sides were red carded by the referee, with most of them receiving their red cards at the changing rooms at the end of the game.
