“We are delighted to announce that Edu Gaspar has been appointed as Arsenal’s first-ever Sporting Director,” part of the statement from Arsenal read.

The new promotion will see Edu take over all Arsenal Academy activities and his existing responsibilities across men’s and women’s football.

Arsenals Chief Executive Vinai Venkatesham revealed that the club's management was pleased with Edu’s contribution to the club.

"Edu’s promotion formalises his already growing influence over our Academy operations, and we look forward to Per and Edu working together to strengthen the integration between our men’s first-team and Academy yet further,” Vinai Venkatesham stated.

The new Technical Director was in the Arsenal team that was famously known as ‘Invincible’ after winning the Premier League without a defeat.

The 44-year-old expressed his delight after landing the new role for the Gunners noting that the London-based football club has been evolving positively.

"I look forward to building on the hard work of so many people and helping all of us grow together and enjoy more success and am thankful for the trust the club has put in me. We move forward together,” Edu stated.
