Kenyan boxers are yet to come to terms with missing out on the opportunity to take part in the 2022 International Boxing Federation (IBF) Youth World Boxing Championship.

The Championship games were held in La Nucia, Spain between Monday, November 14, and Saturday, November 26.

According to the players, they had done thorough preparations but the Ministry of Sports failed to facilitate their travel to Spain.

Speaking to the media after the disappointment, Jane Wangare, one of the female boxers who was hoping to take part in the event stated that they have to move on despite the setback.

"We prepared ourselves very well in what was a very tough program under our able coaches. They took us through the paces to gain endurance and fitness in general.  But we were heartbroken when we knew that we won’t go to Spain.

"In camp, we used to have a countdown towards the competition and the government has let us down, we are heartbroken.

“But we have to move on as champions because in this entire episode God has a purpose," she told Citizen Digital.

Wangare was scheduled to represent the East African nation in the minimum weight category.

Faith Nafuna, who is the reigning heavyweight national youth champion disclosed that she was denied the chance of changing the lives of her family.

“The plans have all backfired, but only God knows why. I’m however heartbroken because I knew I was starting my journey of changing my family status financially, as by all standards I’m the only hope for now.

"There is always next time and I’m hopeful one day I will make it even to the Olympics and who knows, I will make it in life," she ended.
