Ferdinand Omanyala, the African 100m record holder has disclosed that getting ready for the 100m race is similar to boxing preparation.
According to the 26-year-old, 100m runners have to be aggressive during press conferences in order to build their confidence.
“Pressure usually kicks in two weeks to an event. You find that all the newspapers are writing about you. So much pressure, usually built up around big races.

“I always have confidence when I go to press conferences because for us 100m is like boxing, we have to be aggressive.
“I have to tell you that I will beat you. I have to tell you that you are not going to beat me in this race. So that's how we build our confidence,” he stated.
The three-time national champion further added that when he gets to the track, he is at ease with himself and does not ponder about anything that might distract him.
“It is now me and that finishing line, I don't care who is watching. It all comes down to me," explained Omanyala.
According to Omanyala, the pressure is usually zero when he is on the track and the races turn into training sessions for him.
The University of Nairobi alumni also divulged that during the off-season, he normally does not feel any pressure at all.
He engages in some light training to keep his body in shape and spends most of his time around his loved ones.
Omanyala stated that he normally watches movies and sleeps early when he does not have any events in his schedule.
