Drama was witnessed on Sunday evening, December 4, 2022, as Tusker FC narrowly edged out AFC Leopards 1-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match staged at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

Hosea Omondi, the match referee, was attacked by Tusker FC players after he gave a controversial penalty to Ingwe late into the second half.

Omondi claimed that a Tusker player had handled the ball but the affected players had an entirely different opinion.

They surrounded the referee and pounced on him to an extent that he required an urgent medical treatment.

Fortunately, Omondi was able to continue with the game after the medics attended to him.

However, the referee failed to take any action against the unruly players.

When the game resumed, Hosea maintained his decision to award AFC Leopards a penalty.

Ojo Olaniyi, who hails from Nigeria missed the vital spot kick.

10 minutes were added after the end of the regulation time, but the Brewers managed to defend their slim lead.

They had found the back of the net in the 67th minute thanks to a penalty which was scored by Eric Mmata.

The Roberto Matano-coached side bagged maximum points and thus increased their chances of defending the title.

Tusker won the trophy last season, but the top flight league was declared null and void by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) for failing to follow the regulations.

The Ruaraka-based side currently top the FKFPL standings with nine points, 3 more than the trio of Gor Mahia, KCB and HomeBoyz.
