Ababu Sets Out to Market Kenyan Football, Pushes for TV Deal

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba called on local TV stations to showcase Kenyan football live. 

Namwamba held a meeting with Multichoice Africa CEO Fhulu Badulega, on Monday, December 12, where they discussed the possibility of the return of live broadcasting of football. 

According to a statement from the Ministry of Sports, the CS wants Multichoice to broadcast matches in collaboration with local TV stations.

“I believe the local media can pull off their signal to external broadcasters like Super Sport, who will pick the signal. 

“I am challenging you (media) to consider doing it and even as we do that yes, I have made progress with discussions with SuperSport to get them back to Kenyan sports,” Namwamba stated after the meeting. 

Namwamba added that the South African-based media house was in line with the Kenya Kwanza model of ‘Bottom Up’. 

The CS also explained further the Under-19 tournament announced by President William Ruto during the Jamhuri Day celebrations. 

“This tournament will encompass the whole country from the Ward, Members of the County Assembly, Members of Parliament, Governors and the National government is part of it. 

The vibrant Sports CS noted that the program will also run together with what the President announced as the Talanta Hela plan. 

“Talanta Hela plan is our signature legacy program to take this whole program to the digital space,” Namwamba added.
