
2022 has seen Kenyan sports personalities wow the world on the field and track.
As a result of their achievements, these sports personalities have won a raft of international awards.
Below are some of the top sports personalities from Kenya who have been recognised internationally.

Ferdinand Omayala
The Commonwealth champion was selected as an Honouree for the 12th edition of the African Achievers Award.
The fastest man in Africa received an award in the ‘Emerging Sportsman of the Year category for his contribution to sports in Kenya.
He received the award at the September 20, 2022, event at the UK House of Parliament, London, United Kingdom.
Forbes Magazine has rated the Award ceremony as one of the most prestigious award Ceremonies on the African continent, considering its previous recipients.
Some of the awardees include the late Arch. Bishop Desmond Tutu, former Tanzania president Jakaya Kikwete, President of the Republic of Tanzania and former President of Ghana Attah Mills.
Michael Olunga
Michael Olunga was given the trophy for the top scorer in the 2021/2022 Asian Champions League ahead of his club's Qatar league match with Al Duhail.
Olunga received the award after scoring 24 goals for his club Al Duhail.
This was Olunga’s second Golden Boot award abroad after winning a similar title while at Japanese outfit Kashiwa Reysol.
Paul Tergat
Kenya’s long-distance legend Paul Tergat was inducted into the Brussel Diamond League Hall of Fame on September 2, 2022.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside his country mate Daniel Komen and American athlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
Tergat won the Memorial Van Damme DL three times, having participated in the competition on seven occasions.
The marathoner is remembered for consecutively winning the 10,000m race between 1997 and 2000. During the 1997 edition, Tergat set a new world record in the discipline.
The current National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) president was also unmatchable in road races.
Apart from setting a new marathon world record of 2:04.55 at the 2003 Berlin marathon, Tergat also won the world half marathon championship title twice.
Daniel Komen
Daniel Komen was inducted into the Brussels’ Diamond League Hall of Fame during this year’s edition on September 2.
Komen graced the Brussels DL six times, winning the 5,000m and 1,500m races in 1997 and 2007.
The 46-year-old set a new 3,000m Steeplechase world record in 1996 in Italy. More than two decades later, no athlete has so far come close to breaking Komen's record of 7:20.67.
