After a six-week break for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 where Argentina was crowned as the world champions, the English Premier League is set to make a return on Monday, December 26.

The last time a Premier League match was played was on Sunday, November 13, with Manchester United walking away with a win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

All eyes are on Arsenal seating at the top of the league table with 14 games played having amassed 37 points with their only loss coming at Old Trafford.

Since the 2007/2008 season, this is the first time the Gunners are at the top of the league after Christmas.

Arsenal has a good chance of lifting the Premier League as all seven teams to win 12 of their first 14 games have gone ahead to win the title.

In the last 13 seasons, 10 teams have been crowned champions having topped the table on Christmas Day.

However, Arsenal has failed to win the league on each of the last five occasions that they have topped on Christmas Day, a record that extends back to the 1951/52 season.

During the Premier League era, the Gunners have failed to win the league on two occasions despite having topped the table on Christmas Day.

A win on Boxing Day will see Arsenal go eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City who will play Leeds on Wednesday, December 28.

Unfortunately, Arsenal will have to do it all without Gabriel Jesus after the Gunners' Number 9 picked up a serious knee injury at the World Cup.

It is expected that the Brazilian forward will be back in late February 2023, and will hope to get back to his scoring ways having failed to score in six league games before the break.

The Gunners' re-opening fixture on Boxing Day will be London Derby as they will face West Ham at the Emirates Stadium.
