10 KPL Players Among GSU Graduates

Ten Kenya Premier League(KPL) players were among the 991 General Service Unit (GSU) officers, who graduated on Thursday, January 12, 2022, at the Embakasi B Training College.

Among them, was former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars defender Haron Shakava.

The other KPL stars who graduated during the pass-out parade include David Simiyu, Silicho Soita, Daniel Musamali, Kevin Ouma, and Yusuf Mainge.

David Owino, Job Ochieng, Bolton Omwenga, and Reuben Juma also officially became members of the National Police Service.

Speaking during the pass-out parade, President William Ruto congratulated the graduates for their incredible achievements.

“This is a day of tremendous pride and joy for the graduating officers and their families as well as the National Police Service College Community here in Embakasi and the people of Kenya at large.

“The graduates assembled here before us, have satisfied the college that after qualifying for admission, they demonstrated the necessary knowledge, skill, patriotism, courage, and discipline to join the General Service Unit.

“I congratulate, therefore each and every one of you for this lifetime achievement. Congratulations and my very best wishes as you get on to do what you have been trained to do,” he stated.

 Under Section 24 of the NPS Act, the functions of the General Service Unit include containing cattle rustling and banditry and controlling civil disturbance and rioters.

They are also tasked with the provision of security to the president, state lodges, and vital strategic points and installations. 

The General Service Unit was founded in 1948 and the current commandant is Douglas Kanja.

All 10 players are members of the Kenya Police FC, which currently sits ninth in the KPL table with eight points from six matches.
