Weghorst Eager to Play for Eric ten Hag

Manchester United has completed the transfer of Netherlands striker Wout Weghorst from Besiktas. 

The 30-year-old Dutch striker was announced as a Red Devil on Friday, January 13, 2023, on the club's website  

He is expected to play for Manchester United for a period of six months and help Eric ten Hag achieve this season's target.

“Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Wout Weghorst has joined the club on loan from Burnley until June 2023,’ a statement from Manchester United read. 

The Dutch striker has been on loan at Besiktas since the start of the 2022/2023 season scoring nine goals in 18 appearances. 

Playing for the Netherlands, Weghorst has 19 caps scoring five goals with the recent two coming at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. 

He has played in four top European leagues (Germany, England, Turkey and Netherlands) making 414 club appearances. 

In his first interview as a United player, Weghorst noted that he was impressed with the gameplay of Eric ten Hag. 

"I feel privileged to be joining Manchester United. I’ve played against the club in the past and it’s a fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt. I’ve seen United’s progress under Erik ten Hag this season and can’t wait to start playing my part in pushing the team towards its aims. 

Weghorst will miss the Manchester Deby on Saturday, January 14, but is expected to feature in United’s match against Crystal Palace.
