Arsenal stars showed their class off the field after their impressive 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening, January 15, by honouring Arsenal Women's mercurial forward Beth Mead, who is currently undergoing a tough period.

Mead lost his mother on Sunday, January 7, after a long fight with ovarian cancer.

The Mikel Arteta-coached side paid tribute to Mead by posing with a jersey with the heart-warming words “Thinking of you Beth” written on the back in their dressing room.

Their female counterparts had earlier in the day shown solidarity with one of their own by wearing black armbands during their 1-1 draw with London foes Chelsea.

Sunderland stars and fans also observed a minute silence before their WSL 2 clash against Durham to stand with their former player.

Beth, a 2022 BBC Sports Personality of the Year, joined the Gunners in January 2021 and went on to become one of their dependable stars.

Some of the trophies that the skillful player has helped the North London club win include a Women’s Super League title and the SheBelieves Cup.

England forward Mead released a statement on Friday, January 13, stating that her mother died while surrounded by loved ones.

"Thought long and hard about what to write but there will never be any words that will do justice.

"At 1 am on January 7, our beautiful, kind, funny mum and wife passed away after a long and brave battle against ovarian cancer.

"She was surrounded by myself, my brother, and dad as she passed away peacefully. Our hearts are broken, and there will be a piece missing forever but heaven has now gained a special angel.

"Our family would appreciate some privacy during this difficult time. We love you lots, forever and always," part of her statement read.
