Kenyan-born United States runner Betsy Saina smashed the course record at the 2023 EDP Medio Maratón de Sevilla on Sunday, January 29.
13 months after giving birth, she ran a tactical race, monitoring the situation before taking charge in the final stages.
Saina, a 2018 Paris Marathon champion, reached the tape in 1:08.25 ahead of Germany’s Alina Reh and French athlete Mathilde Senechal.

Reh and Senechal clocked a personal best time of 1:08.42 and 1:12.59 respectively.
Saina's time was more than two minutes faster than the previous course record of 1:10.36 set by Spain's Meritxell Soler in 2022.
The 34-year-old studied in the United States and currently shapes her skills in Colorado. She officially started running for her adopted nation in June 2021.
Saina is among the favorites to make it to the United States squad for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Ethiopian runner Amdework Waelegn ran away with the men's title in a time of 1:28.00.
Oqbe Kibrom Ruesom, who was on the leading park for the most part of the race settled for a second-place finish in 1:01:01, overcoming a spirited fight from Benjamin Choquert.
Choquert, who is from France clocked 1:02.20 to complete the podium place finishes.
Uganda road race runner Abel Sikowo registered a fifth-place finish in a time of 01:02.26.
