K24 Launches New Show to Rival NTV’s Sport-On

K24 unveiled a new sports show that will rival NTV's Sport On for the Monday 10 pm TV viewership in Kenya.

Dubbed Monday Night Football, the new show will air every Monday starting February 6, from 10 pm, the same time NTV's Sport-On airs. 

In a statement shared on K24's social media platforms on Tuesday, January 31, the new show will be hosted by Kelvin Kimathi with Fred Arocho and James Situma appearing as its panelist.

“For FKFPL, EPL, La Liga, Serie A, and League one analysis, top-level banter, and great football interviews don’t miss Monday night football with Kelvin Kimathi starting February 6, 2023,” the Kijabe Street-based station revealed.

Kelvin Kimathi started his career as an intern at K24 before joining KTN News. He was later poached by Switch TV where he used to host a show called Dikodiko Viwanjani before making a comeback to Mediamax to host K24's sports news.  

Fred Arocho on the other hand is a celebrated media personality known for his live Swahili football commentary on Radio Jambo as well as his appearances on Citizen TV as a morning show panelist on Sporty Monday.

The football commentator revealed he will still continue with his other roles as they do not conflict.

James Wakhungu Situma on the other hand is a retired Kenyan football player who played for Tusker FC in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and the Kenya national team.

The former defender retired from active football in 2019 led Sofapaka to a KPL title in 2009, and was part of Adel Amrouche's Harambee Stars team which lifted the Cecafa trophy in 2013. 

Sport On, the NTV show that Monday Night Football is set to rival is hosted by Bernard Ndong and James Wokabi who were poached from Citizen TV and Capital FM respectively. 

The show premiered on September 19, 2022, and covers football matters as well as basketball, rugby, athletics, e-sports, and news from other sports disciplines. 

Both shows conduct real-time interviews however the NTV show covers athletes who have made a mark in different disciplines.
