The Belgian Football Federation on Wednesday, February 8, unveiled Roberto Matinez's replacement as the national team's head coach.

In a statement to newsrooms, the Federation announced the appointment of Domenico Tedesco as the Red Devil's head coach.

The ex-RB Leipzig boss was previously linked with a move to Leeds United in the Premier League.

Tedesco will sign a deal with the Belgium National side that sees him up to the 2024 Euros competition in Germany.

Reacting to his appointment the experienced tactician who previously served as Schalke 04 and Spartak Moscow coach highlighted his elation.

“For me, it is a great honor to be the new head coach of Belgium,” commented Tedesco adding that he was looking forward to the task and was extremely motivated.

Th 37-year-old tactician highlighted that he had a very good feeling from the first conversation.

Tedesco returns to management after over five months in the cold following his sacking by Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in September 2022 following a disappointing start to the season.

He effectively replaces Martinez, who led Belgium to a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup and stepped down after the Red Devils failed to progress to the knockout stage of the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

Martinez’s exit coincided with the likely breakup of Belgium’s so-called “Golden Generation,” an era featuring standout attacking players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, and Dries Mertens.

Tesdesco’s main task will be to rebuild the squad ahead of the European championship.

Belgian fans are optimistic that Tedesco will deliver with his first assignment coming against former Manchester United caretaker manager Ralf Ragnick's Australia in the Euro 2024 qualifiers later this year.
