Premier League side Southampton FC have parted ways with their manager Nathan Jones ahead of their upcoming clash against Chelsea slated for next weekend.

The 49-year-old was sacked following a number of dismal performances.

Southampton announced that Rubén Sellés will assume managerial roles as they look for a permanent replacement.

“The club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones.

“First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea,” the statement ends.

Jones joins a list of other Premier League managers who have been shown the door this season including Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.

Lampard and Gerrard were fired by Aston Villa and Everton FC respectively.

Jones’ sacking comes barely four months after he was trusted with the job of helping the Saints get out of the relegation zone.

The Welshman who replaced Ralph Hasenhuttl on Friday, November 10 lost nine out of the 14 games at Southampton.

In those matches, the former Luton FC boss failed to secure a win in four consecutive matches at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

Southampton currently occupies the bottom place in the 2022/2023 Kenya Premier League with 15 points, 36 less than the league leaders Arsenal.
