Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola apologised to Steven Gerrard for his comments regarding the infamous slip in 2014 which saw City win the Premier League.

Guardiola in a previous pre-match presser while responding to financial charges allegations took a shot at Gerrard stating that the slide was Manchester City’s fault.

However, the City boss during a presser on Tuesday, February 14, publicly apologised to Gerrard revealing that he already did so in private.

"I apologise to Steven Gerrard for the unnecessary and stupid comments I stated last time about him.

"He knows how I admire him and his career, what he has done for this country where I'm living and training. I am ashamed of myself for what I stated because he does not deserve it.

"I truly believe in my comments in my previous press conference to defend my club but I didn't represent my club well putting his name in these stupid comments.

"I apologised to him personally but I have to do it here as well. I'm so sorry for him, for Alex his wife, kids, and family because it was stupid," Pep stated.

Manchester City defeated Aston Villa on Sunday, February 11, to move within three points of league leaders Arsenal ahead of their clash on Wednesday, February 15.

Pep also gave an update on his squad's fitness level disclosing that he was unsure of the availability of Erling Haaland.

On how his side would approach the game against Arsenal Pep highlighted that Manchester City was ready for the challenge.

"So far they are the best team in the Premier League, they made an incredible first leg of the league.

"We felt it a few weeks ago in the FA Cup here. The commitment, they are sharp. We have to try to read the game we're going to play. It will be a big, big battle. In the departments, you have to be ready,” Pep added.
