Former Kenya 7s rugby star Dennis Ombachi, famous for his cooking skills, revealed how he started playing rugby.
Speaking during an interview with Mark Masai on Monday, February 20, Ombachi noted that high school life ushered him into the sport.
However, indiscipline cases prompted him to try the game ultimately.

“I studied at Kisii Highschool for Form one and two before being expelled. I then joined Kiambu High School for form 3 and four. I was again suspended for two weeks, a few month after admission.
“I remember the class was in session, and there was this guy who sat at the front of the class who had made fun of me, and I felt it was time for payback. I took a battery, and while the teacher was not looking, I swung it and hit him. However, it was just in time when the teacher turned back and saw me resulting in my being sent away.
“When I came back teh principal who was also the rugby coach took me aside and told me that I had plenty of energy and I needed somewhere I could release it. He suggested I join rugby which I did and turned out to be good at it,” Ombachi noted.
Ombachi added that while in high school, he did not play for passion, but to channel his anger.
He also added that rugby legend Humprey Kayange was a key player in his professional rugby career.
Kayange provided him with transport for over a year and bought him his first training kit.
Ombachi suffered a blow to his career at the 2016 Olympics after breaking his leg and ankle. The rugby star was then at his peak, forcing him out of the pitch for about six months.
Currently, Ombachi is enjoying his retirement and spends time recording cooking videos online, as the self-proclaimed The Roaming Chef.
