Reigining FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia will be seeking for revenge when they take on Vihiga United in match to be played at the Mumias Complex on Thursday afternoon.
On January 23, 2021, the unexpected happened at the Kasarani Annex when Vihiga United, less fancied beat Gor Mahia 1-0 through a late Dennis Wafula goal. The Vihiga number 40 fired from close range to silence the K'Ogalo faithful that were hoping for a fourth win in a row in the league.
Things have however changed for the better for Carlos Vaz Pinto's charges and three wins on the trot in all competitions has brought confidence into the 19-time Kenya champions.
The Portuguese gaffer will be hoping that in form striker Tito Okello carries his fine form into this fixture. The South Sudan international was on fire in their last league fixture, scoring one goal and providing an assist that was tucked away by Alpha Onyango.
With no injury concerns, head coach Carlos Vaz Pinto expects to name a strong lineup to face the relegation threatened side.
"All games are difficult and we must face them (Vihiga)with commitment, organization and concentration all opponents deserve. We are determined to win." He said.
It has been a positive start for new captain Haron Shakava. The defender re-signed from Nkana FC in January says they are ready to overturn the first leg result.
"It is going to be a tough match because we lost to them in the first leg, but we are ready for today," he said.
In their last five encounters, both teams have emerged with two victories each and a draw.
