The Football Kenya Federation’s request to have the National team Harambee Stars train at the Kasarani and Nyayo stadium has been turned down by the Director General of Sports Stadia Management board (SSMB) Pius Meto.

In a letter seen by TeamKenya, Meto says the National team cannot use Kasarani or Nyayo Stadia because they are booked for other assignments until mid July.

“Reference to your letter requesting for a training ground in preparation for the upcoming CECAFA tournament dated 20th June 2021.

We wish to inform you that the Kenya Olympic team is currently utilizing both the Kasarani facilities while Nyayo stadium is used by Kenya Rugby between 24th June 2021 to 11th July 2021.” read the letter.

On Friday the SSMB declined to grant the same facilities to the federation who had requested the July 4 FKF Betway Cup final pitting AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia be played in either of the two stadia.

The above statement comes as a slap in the face for football lovers in the country who are demanding to know why these offers have been declined.

However, it has emerged that the facilities had been booked early enough by the disciplines using them currently. The Kenya Rugby Union booked the Nyayo stadium in January and has always planned to use the facility.

“KRU booked Nyayo in January and it hosted Kenya versus Zambia and now the Barthes Cup.”

“We always knew that if we don’t plan early, we might be in for a rude shock,” Michael Kwambo from KRU told TeamKenya.

The Kenya Olympics team is in a Biobubble camp at Kasarani hence it unavailability too.
