
The Kenya U23 football team, Emerging Stars, on Tuesday lost 4-2 to Burundi on post-match penalties in the semi-final of the Cecafa U-23 Championship at the Bahir Dar Stadium in Ethiopia on Tuesday.
The match had ended in a barren draw in regulation time before heading straight to penalties.
Hakizima Issa, Ndikumana Asman, Hakizimana Adolphe, and Nduwimana Franck put away Burundi's penalties, with Bernard Ochieng and Frank Odhiambo scoring Kenya's two spot kicks.
Heading into the match, Stanley Okumbi's Stars were depleted with right back Lewis Bandi and top scorer Ronald Reagan all missing through injury.
Stars had beaten South Sudan and Djibouti enroute to the semis and will now face the former in the third and fourth place playoff on Friday afternoon.
Burundi will meanwhile face Tanzania in the final. Tanzania beat South Sudan 1-0 in the early kick off to book a spot in the final.
