Gor Mahia Appoint Mark Harrison as New Head Coach

Mark Harrison

Englishman, Mark Harrison takes over as the new head coach for Gor Mahia after former coach, Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto parted ways with the club earlier last month. The Englishman will step in for assistant coach Sammy Omollo (Pamzo) who hasn't had a great period during the last few weeks. In the last 3 games, Gor Mahia are still chasing for a win having lost two games and drawn one.

Harrison landed in the country on Friday 30th July and was welcomed as Gor played a friendly match against AFC Leopards at Camp Toyoyo. Gor Mahia during the unconventional matchup won 1-0, courtesy of Samuel Onyango. The former Southampton and Stoke player isn't entirely foreign to African football as he has managed to coach different teams in the continent. His CV boasts of 13 clubs, among them being Chippa United and Golden Arrows of South Africa, Zimbabwe’s teams Harare City and Highlanders FC, as well as Botswana’s Township Rollers.

Gor Mahia Chairman, Ambrose Rachier also went ahead to explain how the final appointment decision was made. “We had many applicants but we decided to pick Mark Harrison as the man as he understands the African football environment having worked with a number of teams previously. Language was another factor we considered as well as experience of the coach,’’ Rachier said.

Gor Mahia are now set to play Kakamega Homeboyz on August 7th right under the tutorship of Mark Harrison.
