Former US basketball star Shaquille O'Neal has been unveiled by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as a key figure that will help Australia's new government implement reforms for an Indigenous voice in parliament.
Australia's centre-left Labor party government is seeking a referendum, needed to change the constitution to recognize Indigenous people and mandate consultation with them on decisions that affect their lives.
In a news conference in Sydney, O’Neal promised his availability to the cause during his time in the country.

"I'm here in your country, whatever you need from me you just let me know," O'Neal stated.
According to Indigenous Affairs Minister Linda Burney, O'Neal had requested to be involved.
Albanese recognised four-time NBA champion O'Neal's track record of working for social justice and defending the marginalized in the US.
"We want to build the broadest possible support and we want to engage with people who can connect with young people in particular but with all sections of society,
"Shaq has that record of bringing people together of different backgrounds which is consistent with our approach," Albanese said.
Albanese added that Shaq had agreed to do some videos on the issue.
Australia’s Indigenous people have endured generational struggle to win recognition for injustices since European colonisation in the 1700s.
