Friends School Bukembe was banned from the Kenya National Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games on Thursday, September 8, 2022 for fielding an ineligible player.

According to an official letter addressed to the school’s principal through the Bungoma County director of education, Bukembe has been slapped with a 2-year ban.

“That you presented ineligible players for football boys finals against Ebwali Secondary school played on 3th September, 2022 at Mumias Sugar stadium.

“In view of the above, this office finds your school culpable and consequently ban the team from participating in games organized by KSSSA for a period of two years beginning the 8th September, 2022,” read the letter.

Ebwali had accused their rivals Bukembe of fielding a player who took part in the 2021/2022 National Super League (NSL). The said player is a non student who completed his studies in 2014.

Bukembe won the Western region finals after beating Ebwali 7-6 on post match penalties after the match ended 0-0 in regulation time.

Ahead of the national tournament, Bukembe had been grouped in Pool A alongside Eastern region representatives Mbooni boys high school and Highway secondary school from Nairobi.

The group only had three teams because the North Eastern region did not send any representatives.

Highway secondary school which finished second in the Nairobi regional finals also made it to the national showpiece after Waylight Secondary school was banned for fielding an ineligible player.

The 2022 KSSSA term two national games will be held at Nakuru Boys High School from Friday, September 9 to Monday, September 12.
