Harambee Stars defender Joash Onyango clarified the reasons that promoted him to request a transfer from Tanzanian Premier League side Simba SC.

On Wednesday, September 14, Simba handed Tanzania Prisons a 1-0 defeat with Onyango voted as the man of the match.

The Kenyan defender, while speaking to the media, admitted to having requested a transfer due to the lack of game time.

“It is true, I had handed in my transfer request. I did so because the former coach (Zoran Maki) had no plans for me on the team.

“The interim coach (Juma Mgunda) is good and as players, we need to cooperate with him for the team to reach far.

“To the fans, I assure you I am still a Simba player and will remain at the club,” Joash stated.

The 28-year-old had earlier been dropped from the starting lineup by Simba's former coach Zoran Maki.

The Kenyan defender had also refused to travel with the club in August 2022, to Sudan for some scheduled friendly matches.

Simba Sports Club parted ways with the Serbian tactician Zoran Maki on September 6, 2022, after 67 days at the club.
