Sarah Ochieng's Match Against Puerto Rico Boxer Confirmed

Kenyan boxer Sarah Achieng has penned a contract to see her take on Puerto Rios Melissa Hernandez. 

The bout between the Achieng and Hernandez is set to take place at the Carnivore Grounds on October 21. 

Achieng’ who is a Commonwealth super lightweight champion, signed the contract in the presence of Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) chairperson Reuben Ndolo and Nairobi County Assembly speaker Ken Ng’ondi.

Her opponent from Puerto Rico, a former World Boxing Council champion, will make her first appearance in Kenya. 

Achieng’ noted that she hopes to have a good fight alluding that the battle is hers to lose.  

“I’m determined to bring joy to the faces of Kenyan boxing fans as I hope to register a positive match towards a world title. 

“My fitness and advice from my coaches is my great inspiration towards Hernandez but I’m determined not to let down my home fans,” Achieng’ stated. 

Hernandez, 42, has more wins against the Kenyan, having fought 44 times and registering 23 wins (seven knockouts), eight draws and three defeats.  

As for Achieng, in a total of 16 fights, she has won 14 fights (seven knockouts) and two losses.  

Achieng’ noted that it is in the ring that both of them will prove who is better despite her opponent having a better record. 

The Kenyan boxer hopes to bounce back after she previously failed to travel to the United States (US) for a fight due to visa problems on June 11, 2022.  

Achieng’s last bout was on October 20, 2021, when she defeated Anisha Basheel of Malawi to win the Commonwealth Super Lightweight title.
