Politician Beats 110 Participants to Win Golf Title

Former Machakos County assembly speaker Bernard Muteti Mung’ata overcame 110 participants to emerge the winner of the 2022 Machakos leg Nation Classic Golf Series held over the weekend.

Mung’ata produced an eye-catching display to accumulate a total of 42 points, two more than the second-place finisher John Kinyua.

Ben Omuodo, former chairman of the Kenya Golf Union finished third after bagging 41 points.

Speaking after achieving the incredible feat, Mung'ata disclosed dreams of participating in the upcoming international tournaments.

“I am overwhelmed, it feels so great winning the Nation Classic event here at home. 

“I am very happy and promise to represent the club well in Ruiru and who knows, I could end up traveling to Dubai for the DP World Tour’s Desert Classic’’ he was quoted by Nation.

In the women's category, Nancy Kariuki emerged the winner after amassing 41 points. Her closest competitor Alice Abere garnered 36 points.

After their impressive displays, the five individuals proceeded to the next round of the high profile tournament.

Apart from the Machakos tournament, the other five legs of the classic series were held in Nyali, Nanyuki, Kisumu, Nyahururu and Nakuru.

The final of the multiple series tournament will be held on November 5, in Ruiru where the champions will get an opportunity of taking part in the prestigious DP World Tour's Desert Classic Tournament slated for 2023.
