Vihiga Queens opened their 2022/2023 Kenya Women’s Premier League campaign on a high by hammering newcomers Kangemi Ladies 12-0 at Mumias Complex on Wednesday, December 21.
The Western region-based side scored their first goal early in the first half courtesy of Maureen Ater.
She added the second in the 26th minute before Harambee Starlets mercurial forward Janet Bundi put the game behind the reach of Kangemi five minutes later.

Bundi was on the scoresheet again, a few minutes before the break to give her side a huge 4-0 lead.
At the start of the second half, Kangemi tried to get back into the game. However, their spirits were dampened by Ater, who completed her hat trick at the hour mark.
Kangemi’s situation went from bad to worse when Faith Ongachi scored two quick-fire goals to make it 8-0 in favor of the hosts.
Diana Cherono, Robai Kebede, and Phelistus Kadari also managed to find the back of the net for Vihiga Queens.
Vihiga Queens won the title last year but failed to represent the country at the second edition of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League because of a ban that was imposed on the country by FIFA.
The club, which is sponsored by the Vihiga County government, would be seeking to reclaim its title and take part in the prestigious tournament next year.
Moroccan club ASFAR currently holds the CAF Women’s Champions League title.
The Rabat-based club hammered South African representatives Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0 in a final held in November to win the coveted trophy.
