East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker Suleiman Shahbal on Tuesday, February 28, unveiled a competition to design a logo for the newly launched Mombasa United FC.
The team was unveiled by Shahbal, who joined the regional assembly after being fronted by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
“I am calling out to all the graphic designers in Mombasa County to design the official logo of the Mombasa United FC as well as select the colors of the team.
"The best designer will receive a Ksh50,000 prize and the runners-up will get Ksh25,000,” Shahbal’s statement read.
Contestants were advised to submit their designs and color schemes by March 10, on the teams' email mombasaunitedfc(at)gmail(dot)com.
It was announced that once the submissions were made the various logo’s will be posted and subjected to voting by the people of Mombasa.
The winner will be announced on March 17, 2023.
“For you to participate you must be a designer from Mombasa and based here. Once we announce you as the winner we will require you to recreate the logo to confirm the authenticity,” the statement read in part.
The politician also called on Mombasa leaders to support the idea of establishing a football academy in the county.
Mombasa United FC comprises players selected from Mvita, Kisauni, Nyali, Changamwe, Jomvu and Likoni constituencies.
The team has 24 players aged between 18 and 25.
During the unveiling of the club, it was announced that its funding would come from a section of the political class and business community in the county.
It was also added that a women’s club would be formed in the near future to provide a platform for talented girls from the county to showcase their talents.
